Michael loved life and lived it to the fullest. He did more in his short 27 years than most do in a full lifetime. He will be missed terribly by all those whose lives he touched.

Dear Bette and Thomas,
You don't know me, but I'm a friend of your son from when he lived in Chicago. He actually took voice lessons from me! I heard news today about the tragedy that occurred, and I am so devastated and so very sorry. There are probably fe, if any, words that can ease your sorrow, but I'm hoping it may comfort you to know how fondly I felt – and still feel – about Michael.
Besides having a beautiful voice, Michael came to every lesson with a sunny and joyful demeanor. We often laughed during his lessons. We just had a great time making music together. I prized him as one of my favorite students. It brought me such joy to hear how his voice and his love for music grew every week. The last time I saw Michael in person, he sang Elton John's "Your Song" at my dad's piano bar in Chicago, and I remember sitting there with an enormous smile on my face, BEAMING with pride! Beyond knowing him as a student, it was a pleasure knowing him as a person. It's rare to encounter an individual with such optimism, a strong sense of fun, and a zest for life. He will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will miss him greatly.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss, and I will keep you and Michael' joyful memory in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care,
Felicia
